About the Internet Council
The Internet Council
has existed for ten years and currently has eighty (80)
members. At its inception, the Council was well-positioned
to tackle the important issues for transacting in an online
environment. The Council is also the natural home to the WEB
ACH application and developed the operating rules that came
into existence in 2001. The Council has evolved over the
years and has a history of expertise in cutting edge issues
in the payments environment, such as authentication, data
security, risk management, compliance, emerging technologies,
and remote channel management (e.g., online banking).

Current Internet Council activities include:

Discovering tools for risk assessment, identification of
current and future risk issues, and analysis of security
issues and relevant solutions scenarios

Exploring stronger authentication techniques to mitigate the
risk of sophisticated fraudulent attacks in the ecommerce
environment, including the growing support for migration to
two factor authentication as driven by regulatory agencies
and other influences

Formation of an advisory group to the Online Payments
project

Greater engagement of the online merchant community
-
Addressing the opportunities and challenges presented by the
increasing adoption of Internet-initiated transactions,
including perspectives on rules and risk management issues
